What Is LED Phototherapy?
LED (Light Emitting Diode) Phototherapy uses specific wavelengths of light to penetrate the skin at different depths, triggering natural biological processes within the cells. Unlike lasers, LED light is gentle, non-thermal and non-ablative — it stimulates without damaging, making it suitable for all skin types and tones, including sensitive and reactive skin. It can be used as a standalone treatment or as a powerful add-on to enhance the results of microneedling, chemical peels, injectables and other procedures.
The Dermalux Flex MD
The Dermalux Flex MD is a Class IIA certified medical device manufactured in the UK by Aesthetic Technology Ltd. Independent testing has shown it to be at least three times more powerful than other portable LED devices, delivering a dose range of 10–40 Joules across its three wavelengths. It has won multiple Aesthetics Awards including UK Best Treatment (2013–2017) and Manufacturer of the Year (2018 & 2021), and is recommended by The Telegraph as "the most powerful portable LED device available."
The Power of Three Wavelengths
Blue 415nm — Acne & Clarity
Blue light at 415nm is the most clinically proven wavelength for destroying the bacteria responsible for acne (Cutibacterium acnes). It improves skin clarity without irritation, and its powerful antibacterial action also has a calming effect on redness and inflammation — making it ideal for acne-prone, congested or reactive skin.
Red 633nm — Rejuvenation & Glow
Red light at 633nm supercharges cellular energy (ATP production), accelerating repair and renewal. It boosts collagen synthesis, increases hydration, enhances circulation and reverses the visible signs of ageing. Patients consistently report a visible improvement in skin radiance and vitality after even a single session.
Near Infrared 830nm — Deep Repair & Healing
Near infrared at 830nm penetrates deeper into the skin to trigger the wound-healing cascade, calm redness and irritation, reduce pigmentation and promote healthy skin cell turnover. When combined with Red 633nm, it delivers advanced rejuvenation benefits that address both surface and deeper structural concerns.
Combination Treatments
LED Phototherapy is an excellent complement to many treatments offered at Skintap. Used immediately after microneedling or a chemical peel, it accelerates healing and reduces post-treatment redness. Applied before or after injectables, it calms the skin and supports recovery. As a standalone course, it delivers progressive, cumulative improvements in skin quality with no recovery time required.
Two Complimentary Sessions Included
Signature members receive two complimentary 15-minute LED Phototherapy sessions per year (one every 6 months), subject to clinical suitability. Add-on sessions are also available from £25.
